Swedish

Swedish Massage is the most commonly requested style of massage. When thinking of deep relaxation, usually Swedish is what comes to mind. Swedish involves long, fluid, gliding strokes along the muscles and tissues towards the direction of the heart. The pressure can vary from light to medium to firm. The goal of a Swedish massage is to create deep relaxation and it is an excellent modality for stress management. This cannot be underestimated when designing a treatment plan.

"A study conducted by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and published in The New York Times, found that volunteers who received a 45-minute Swedish massage experienced significant decreases in levels of the stress hormone cortisol, as well as arginine vasopressin-a hormone that can lead to increases in cortisol. Volunteers also had increases in the number of lymphocytes, white blood cells that are part of the immune system, and a boost in the immune cells that may help fight colds and the flu."

Deep Tissue

Deep Tissue Massage, is similar to Swedish only sharper tools such as knuckles, fists, forearms, and elbows are incorporated to get to the deepest layers of muscle, tendons, and fascia. This technique requires very slow, deep guided strokes, and firm pressure. Deep Tissue Massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain and soreness in both large and small muscle groups. Feel free to communicate any discomfort with your therapist.

Synergy Hot Stone

Hot Stone Massage Therapy has been used for relaxation for 1000's of years. Synergy Stones are able to penetrate the muscle fibers on a deeper and more therapeutic level than traditional basalt stones. The stones are used as extension of the hand, contouring the body. Synergy Hot Stone Massage is recommended in particular for individuals suffering from fibromyalgia, arthritis or other chronic pain as well as those with trigger points. The penetrating effects of the heated stones allow the massage to be delivered in multiple levels from Light Swedish to Deep Trigger Point Therapy.

Chinese Cupping

Chinese cupping is a form of acupressure and dates back to ancient times. This modality is also a form of deep tissue work in that it affects the deeper layers of muscle by incorporating negative pressure. Areas of tension in the body formed by chronic holding patterns, injury, and stress can greatly benefit from the mobility of silicone jars. The jars are used to break up adhesions (otherwise known as knots) in connective tissue surrounding the muscles, tendons, and ligaments and to increase circulation.

By implementing the silicone jars, these adhesions can be eliminated much faster than with traditional massage. After the fascia is loosened, negative pressure can be applied to the area, by suction. This action further hydrates the affected muscle with fresh blood, oxygen and nutrients to bring about a lasting and therapeutic benefit.

Pre and Peri Natal Massage

Studies indicate that massage therapy performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health. Massage therapy addresses different needs through varying techniques, one of which is called Swedish Massage.

Swedish Massage aims to relax muscle tension and improve lymphatic and blood circulation through mild pressure applied to the muscle groups of the body. Swedish Massage is the recommended massage method during pregnancy because it addresses many common discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts.

Massage relaxes muscles, increases circulation and lowers stress hormones, bringing relaxation and stress relief. All body systems appreciate treatment after nine months of change, culminating with the delivery of the greatest miracle in life.

Anxiety and depression respond very well to skilled therapy. About two-thirds of new moms experience temporary postpartum blues related to hormonal changes, new responsibilities and adjustment frustrations. Emotional support and the other benefits of massage can help during this transition.
